MODEL 425/426 FIBER-OPTICALLY COUPLED ISOLATION AMPLIFIER
Description
The Model 425 / Model 426 system is a fiber-optically linked isolation amplifier. Due to the physical separation (20 foot cable is standard) of the two halves of the amplifier, much higher voltage isolation is available compared to transformer-coupled or traditionally optocoupled designs. The high-side amplifier module operates from a standard 9 volt battery, eliminating the other isolated connection in standard amplifiers. The high-side unit is available in either DIN-rail mounted packaging or steel box; the ground-side unit is available in either 19" rack-mount or wall-mount box enclosures.
High
Side (425) Specifications
Input: Voltage signal, 0.25Vp-p max to 2.5Vp-p max in two or four switch-selectable ranges; others by request
Gain: +1.00 overall, from M425 input to M426 output; also available with variable overall gains
Resolution: Signal is digitized to 12 bits, or 1 part in 4096
Sample Rate: Input signal is sampled at 40kHz, controlled from ground side unit
Filtering: Before digitizing, signal is lowpass filtered at 15kHz
Power Saver: Amplifier powers down when fiber is disconnected, or by remote control from ground-side unit
Power Switch: Front panel switch disconnects internal battery or external power source
Battery Compartment: Self-contained holder for standard 9V battery; no tools required to change battery
Battery Life: Typically 25-30 hours continuous operation with alkaline battery; longer if power saver mode is used
Fiber Optics: Hewlett-Packard 1mm plastic fiber pair, 20 foot length standard
Connections:
FL425 Twelve wireclamp screw terminals accept wire sizes from 24-14 gauge
Model 425 Three-position terminal block accepts standard crimp lugMechanical:
FL425 2.9" x 3.1" x 1.6" plastic enclosure; mounts on standard 35mm DIN rail
Model 425 3.25" x 4.5" x 3.0" steel box, with mounting feetPower: Internal 9V battery, 15mA max
Ground
Side (426) Specifications
Channels per Unit: Three independent channels
Output: Voltage signal, equal to M425 input signal; also available with variable gain
Ranges: Four ranges, to match range selected at M425
Frequency Response: Jumper-selectable 8-pole Bessel lowpass filtering at 10kHz, 5kHz, or 2.5kHz
Filter Delay: Dependent on filter frequency; 100uSec for 10kHz, 150uSec for 5kHz, 250uSec for 2.5kHz
Calibration: Dedicated fiber-optic transmitter and 18" cable supplies an optical signal corresponding to zero, +fullscale, or -fullscale, switch selectable
